nationals.

i saw this over on brand new yesterday morning and i was so happy! i have always had a MAJOR issue with the nationals logos (since i am a big phillies fan - we see the nationals a lot)...mainly because of the complete inconsistency between of the curvy 'w' and the monstrous block letters. in normal design i don't mind the mixture of different fonts...but these two were just sending completely different messages. and don't get me wrong, i am not completely in love with this new logo either, but i am just glad they decided to pick one direction...i think it will give them a much more cohesive look!

midtown.

hellllo october!

here is another thing i saw while on the mural tour...in one section where we were walking i saw light banners hanging promoting the midtown village in philadelphia. i always like when neighborhoods do this to help promote their shops and restaurants. i thought the area seemed really nice...plus i really liked their branding!

girl scouts.

i saw over on brand new that the girl scouts decided to re-vamp their image and branding. i will let you look at it first and then tell you how i feel about it...
so...i am kinda split between liking it and not. i am not really in love with the changes they made to the trefoil...i agree that the old one did make the girl look older, but i don't think that just adding bangs and a pointier nose make them actually look like children...i do really like the other re-branding they did - especially the fun things they did for the letter heads and business cards - that definitely makes it much more fun! i also like the color updates and font changes...

gelato.

gelato is probably the best food that was ever made. i don't even want to think about how much of it i ate while i was in italy! i just wish i could find a comprable version in the us...but no such luck! anyway i came across work from the graphic designer, joe stephenson, the other day and he had a branding collection for a gelateria and i just love it! i think they colors are beautiful and it has just the right feeling for that kind of place!

i just really want gelato now. hahaha

elephanttalk.

i really enjoy reading the blog brand new classroom. the blog shows logo re-dos that students have done for different classes - i enjoy seeing what different people come up with. i saw this logo the other day on it and i love it! so simple, but it completely conveys the idea of the company, plus it is so much more modern compared to their actual logo!

so - sorry the posts have been lacking! i have been pretty busy since i have been home from school! but hopefully i will start to get back on track!

i saw this logo the other day and i love it! i especially love the colors they used for it as well as the paper color - love the combo!
i found it here!

glaad.

i saw this rebranding for the gay & lesbian alliance against defamation over on brand new's website. while i guess i understand what they were trying to accomplish with the old logo...i don't feel like it was that wonderful. but i think the new branding does a much better job of getting across the idea of the organization. it is clear that the logo worked from the key work of amplifying and overall i really like what they did with it!

splenda.

so, first off - sorry the posts have been pretty sparse this week. as you have seen i graduate in about a month, and all of my projects are quickly coming to an end - i only have a week and a half of classes left. so i didn't have a whole lot of spare time this week to post besides things i already had planned. but i am hoping to get a chance this weekend to work on some new posts - since i have found a bunch of things i would like to share!

so while i was "blog hopping" i happened to come across this box design for splenda sugar. i think it is so fun! i love the retro feel and the bright color of the box!
when i was looking at who designed this - which is anchalee chambundabongse by the way...i found some other fun designs on the site that i really enjoyed:

botanical bakery.

i realllllly like this package design for botanical bakery cookies. i like how fun and whimsical these are. i especially like how they created lips out of the leaves for the logo - very clever!
these were designed by david brier of dbd international and you can see more photos here.

the bahamas.

i have talked about this kind of thing before...but another "country" logo that i absolutely love is the bahamas:
i know that these shapes were used to represent the different islands of the bahamas - and i think it is done beautifully. the light colors and feeling of this logo relate directly with what i think of when i think about the islands. and the designers were able to create a pattern that they carried over into other marketing collateral!
another interesting thing is that they also designed symbols that could be used on the islands for tourism and stuff like that. i think that this helps to complete the branding and it shows that all details were thought of!
my only complaint with their branding is that on some of their marketing collateral they use the island pattern a little too much. for the most part they don't, but here is one example where i feel that they do:
this branding was designed by duffy & partners. they have a great slideshow of pictures on their website that show a bunch of different marketing pieces - so i would definitely take a look!

and i also just went to the bahamas website and you can see the branding in place. i also like how when you first open the website there is a short animation of the logo - which goes from the logo to the actual islands. check it out!

caribou coffee.

just last week i was reading an article about caribou coffee and their brand redesign as well as the fact that they are the second largest coffee chain nationally behind starbucks. i was really surprised because i had NEVER heard of caribou coffee...but while in d.c. this weekend, i actually saw one and stopped for a drink. now i don't like coffee - hahaha - but the iced tea i had was good! but i thought i would share some images of the redesign with you:
Before:

After:
i actually don't entirely love it. i really love what they did with typography - that definitely needed a facelift. but i don't like what they did with the caribou at all. in the article it said the body is supposed to be a coffee bean - which i see now, but definitely not until they said it. and the antlers are in the shape of a 'c' to reflect the company name. the caribou and the typography in the redesign seem to me like two different styles - i just don't really see the connection. i wish they modified the old caribou some to fit with the new typography - or at least made a combo of the old and new. i am just not feeling the new caribou.

you can read the article about the rebranding here.

united states of animals

i was doing some research for one of my classes this semester for another campaign we have to do...ugh. can i just say i really wish teachers would come up with more creative projects that telling us to promote a campaign for something because i have just about had enough with all of these stupid campaigns. anyway, i am working on a project for animal adoption and i was on the humane society of the united states website. i had seen their logo before, but forgot how much i really liked it.
i think it is great how they use all of the animals to create the outline of the u.s. and also that these animals are not detailed, but just silhouettes. that makes the logo so easy to read from far away - it is so clear s to what it is. as you probably know by now, i am a big fan of simplicity...and i love the outcome of this! i actually found a website that was talking about the redesign that they did recently - which resulted in the making of this!
i find the original one extremely boring and in no way relates to what the society is all about. someone left a comment on the website i mentioned saying the original one looked like a government type logo and i totally agree.
