the bahamas.
i have talked about this kind of thing before...but another "country" logo that i absolutely love is the bahamas:
i know that these shapes were used to represent the different islands of the bahamas - and i think it is done beautifully. the light colors and feeling of this logo relate directly with what i think of when i think about the islands. and the designers were able to create a pattern that they carried over into other marketing collateral!
another interesting thing is that they also designed symbols that could be used on the islands for tourism and stuff like that. i think that this helps to complete the branding and it shows that all details were thought of!
my only complaint with their branding is that on some of their marketing collateral they use the island pattern a little too much. for the most part they don't, but here is one example where i feel that they do:
this branding was designed by duffy & partners. they have a great slideshow of pictures on their website that show a bunch of different marketing pieces - so i would definitely take a look!
and i also just went to the bahamas website and you can see the branding in place. i also like how when you first open the website there is a short animation of the logo - which goes from the logo to the actual islands. check it out!

melbourne.
i love tennis - i especially love watching my fav andy roddick play...but that is besides the point. i have been watching the australian open a lot this week and i always end up noticing the melbourne logo that is displayed on each of the courts. i like how it is set up in layers and i think it looks great in color and in just the white. its simple...but memorable.
i initially had a hard time finding the logo online because melbourne has another logo and i think this is technically the logo for melbourne park...but anyway i eventually found the designers, who are the cato partners (you can find their website here).oh and just in case anyone was wondering...andy won last night! woot! <3

city neighborhoods.
so these are just some fun things that i found to amuse myself for the afternoon - i was looking online for some typography inspiration and i found these.
typography is one of my favorite things in design and i am usually impressed by people who really know how to use it. thats why i found these city neighborhood maps really interesting. i like the idea of using type to create/fill an image. and they did a really nice job of doing that with these. its really fun if you know the cities to find where certain things are in the text - so i had fun playing around with that in the boston, manhattan (which i don't have posted but there is a link below) and d.c. maps.

these posters were created by ork inc. and here is the link to the original website - they have other cities as well. of course when i first found it i was all excited because they had philly listed. buttt when i clicked on it of course it said that they are currently working on it. but they are still really cool besides that small detail!
