christmas wreaths.

i have been finding so many good designs recently, i thought i better start sharing again!

i love getting ready for the holiday season! my friend ms and i have recently been going to barnes and noble to sit and look through magazines for holiday recipes and crafts...they are just too expensive to buy every one that i want to read! so while i feel somewhat guilty about it i have also found it very relaxing and that it also fills my head with design and craft ideas.

while i was there earlier tonight, i came across the food network magazine - something i didn't realize they had - just to look for some recipes for the holidays. But as I was looking though, i found a bunch of great ideas - and not just for food! i thought these wreath ideas were wonderful! i sometimes get extremely tired of the same old thing, so it is nice to find a new take on an old tradition!

i am torn between the rock candy and marshmallow wreaths as my favorite...

etsy shop!

so this seems to happen with me a lot. i don't really have any free time right now, but then i go and decide to start something new. interesting how that works out. hahaha

but anyway...i have decided to open an etsy shop! i am very excited about this - hopefully i will sell something! i will be selling my handmade cards on the site. right now there is only one listing...but i am hoping that by the end of the week i will have added a few more things! here is a preview of whats up there right now:

cake.

recently i have become very interested in cake design. this is most likely the result of the recent outburst of cake television shows...like my favorite...ace of cakes! they have some amazing cakes and i find it to be another way to show someone's creativity.

this is why for my birthday i had asked for a cake decoration book so i could start to learn the basics, especially the basics of fondant - which i have never used before. this past weekend i decided to spend my day off playing with cakes!

well really only two cakes - i now have newfound respect for these cake shows, especially the cake challenge shows, because it takes such a long time! and i am sure it is mainly because i am inexperienced...so hopefully i will get better in time! while they are both extremely simple cakes i really just wanted to learn how the fondant works and exactly what i needed to do.

so hopefully this fall i will have time to work on some more intense cakes...but for now...here are some pics!

so thinking that once summer began i would have more time to write in my blog was completely wrong...i feel as though i am busier than ever right now! but anyway...i saw this the other day on a packaging website and i though these were really nicely designed. i am all for simplicity and i like when branding easily recognizable and uniform - so i thought these were nice!

i just wonder if the drink is good or not! (i have never heard of this drink...)

jen stark.

so once again i have found another paper artist that i love - jen stark. but the thing about her is that she does these crazy (and time consuming) 3d sculptures made of stacks of colored paper and they are just so different from anything i have seen before. the first one below is my absolute favorite (i have it both zoomed in and the full sculpture).

this is a fun photo that i found...i personally love macs (and just recently got one too!!) and the symbol is just so recognizable in any form...as you can see below!

signs.

so this honestly doesn't have a whole lot to do with design - but i love it so i am posting it anyway! this video is so sweet and beautifully put together! the story is adorable, but i also love how you can tell every single feeling the character is feeling and he doesn't speak one word through the whole thing.

just a warning i guess...it's about 12 minutes long, so make sure you have enough time..because once i started it...i didn't want to stop. enjoy!

tie-pography.

as i think i have said before...i love when people play around with the alphabet and type...and i have found another good example. this designer decided to make a "font" by using his large tie collection. its such a great idea, especially when he incorporates an actual knotted tie to create the y - plus the title of his work is pretty clever if you ask me!
